The oak leaf is a reference to the shield of the organization ‘s distinctive unit insignia and the oak trees at Fort Ord, California, where the unit was first activated.

DESCRIPTION
On a yellow axe-head shape 2¾ inches in width and 3 inches in height overall with an 1/8 inch green border, and a green oak leaf surmounted by a yellow sword, hilt down.
